reflection 3

Today’s drive was unbearable as my nerves began to take over.  When I cannot grasp what I am going for a project I panic because I like to work on it for as much time as possible.  I have gone back and forth about knowing what is being asked of this final round table presentation to I have no idea.   As class began and I put this assignment aside I felt so much more at ease with today’s learning approach compared to the previous “work on your own” format that leaves me aimlessly wondering with no direction.  Because of my attention deficit I tend to get lost quickly in lecture style classes and quite frankly find it boring after a few minutes.  Teachers who encourage group discussion and peer collaboration to reinforce learned skills with a variety of techniques that change up the class activity are a better fit for my learning style.

Learner Hat: I spent quite a bit of time browsing through many of these search sites.  I was really excited about art teacher blogs that not only posted lessons, pictures of the kids work, but also their teaching philosophy.  This is a big one for me.  My biggest debate I have about my job is what approach to art I will take.  Many teach to the end result and although having great work to present to the world is a display of what a great teacher we are, insert sarcasm, I find this approach often time can smother students creativity.  I first looked in Pinterest which is one of my favorite places to find great art lessons and classroom management ideas.  I had previously never used it to look for people I felt who have great resources for me other than lessons.  Today I was trying to add as many teacher resource pins to add to my wall for future use.  I located a couple of really good art resources on teachart.org and creativecommons.org, while doing this.  I know how to find this information but I rarely have the time to commit to looking for these resources.

I returned to www.ted.com to visit the video of Diana Laufenberg.  I signed in and searched through the site and found several videos that look interesting for me to refer back to.  I also like the idea of being able to create my own video to share with fellow teachers.

I left todays class feeling much better.
