I liked class today. It felt more
like a class, where we had specific tasks and discussions and I knew what was
going on, much less ambiguity today. One thing I didn’t realize was how much we
can do with our Google accounts. I had never taken the time to explore Google
before and there was some cool stuff on there, and some real applications for
my classes and some possibilities for the
project. I was frustrated at some points though because my computer didn’t
really let me keep up every conversation or activity, and I can’t download Google
drive, my computer is literally a piece of junk.
I
checked out the effectiveness of khan academy, some mixed messages out there.
I’ve checked them out and they’re basically just videos of a traditional
lecture classes. Khan has just put the same math classes from the last 50 years
and made them videos. He has certainly not reinvented math education. He does
get a lot of publicity though, and I do think they’re a resource that students
can use. I did use one Khan Video in my class last year to help with
logarithmic functions, and it did help the students. So Khan Academy is a mixed
bag.

truth and I will believe, tell me a story and it will live forever in my heart”
