HF's Reflection for Day 3

HF’s Reflection for Day 3

Today’s format.     Small group discussions with peers work.   I liked it because you can speak and ask your peers questions and opinions.  It is a  true exchange.

Class blog.    I have been commenting and posting this week.  I noticed that people have 0-3 comments on this posts.

Here’s a glimpse of my evening at home.

A. Video Conferencing

1. First, sent warning to family & friend via Facebook.  “Working on video conferencing.... Sorry if I call and hang up! I learn from making mistakes.”

2. Read Google’s easy directions:  Touch green Hangouts icon, Touch + icon, Touch name, Touch video icon (or touch menu icon near SMS icon to get video icon).  Called my younger sister.  She didn’t answer but things looked okay on my end.   I tried contacting my older sister using this technology without success - no video icon appearing.   So I tried my friend Bruce.  Again, I warned him on Facebook.

  • Hilary French I learned that I have a short list of folks I want to video conference with who have and have activated Google's Hangouts.

Eventually, I called my husband and was able to video chat without any difficulty.   I learned that I have a short list of folks I want to video conference with who have and have activated Google's Hangouts.    I also learned to keep the wifi on so that I don’t use up my data plan.  I learned that I need a camera for my home computer.  I learned that my mother needs to get a gmail account instead of aol so that we can video conference using the same technology.  I learned that  I can use my google calendar to easily set up google video conferences (look for the green video camera on the page).  Finally, I was reassured by my husband that I did fine with my reunion efforts by  utilizing Google Docs ( for reunion expenses and email addresses) while talking on a conference call with my committee members instead of video conferencing.

B. Social Bookmarking

“Say goodbye to broken links and lost treasures.  The web is dynamic - valuable content you found earlier is often no longer there when needed. Diigo archives the webpages for the links you save. Better yet, the archived pages are fully searchable. So do not just bookmark, save to Diigo!”
I downloaded Diigo to my home computer and started making some of my favorite searchable and easily shared with my Table 3 mates. I wish I had used this much earlier.  I hope Taylor, Lisa, and Kandace can see that I have sent them invitations.   Wish me luck!
