"KISS" Theory
Simplicity can be a powerful tool. I personally enjoy the reminders to keep things simple. Much like creating a presentation, there are certain aspects that need to be followed within the classroom.
I have never visited the Common Sense website before, but I was automatically drawn to media page on the right-hand side. I've recently purchased an iPad for my classroom. I will be utilizing the Common Sense website in order to check reviews and comments on some of the latest apps.
Recently, our school has started to introduce digital citizenship to students. Our library teacher has been showing students the importance of sharing files, while also showing them how to correctly cite work that they've used in research. This year, I look forward to being able to help my students take a different approach when thinking about digital citizenship.
Below, I took various notes during the podcast. I thought about deleting them, but I am going to leave them. I am envious of the students who have been at UMR because I missed that "being an individual and not just another number" piece when I went to college. It was nice to know that there is a collective effort and connection of the classes.
podcast notes:
engagement, short-term memory, make sense of information, information age, learn what instructor thinks is important,
extra effort in the beginning = not attempting the risk
concern about learning as much/covering enough material
need to know information (memorize) -then (mastering)
now- find and use info. not remember and repeat
education now, learn how to learn
be a bit of a rebel, or have tenure lol
daunting task of changing learning philosophy for students (ex: college students)
learn new things through new ways
University MINN Rochester (new college) how people learn
Shopping Mall Rentals for space in order to expand
(old movie theater)
teach someone else material they know. (multiple choice question)
Readings before class
real life connections
"people learn when they're motivated to learn"
"make connections"- connecting classes
ballroom dance team-
feel like an individual and not just a number
push the limit-try new things
change is needed now
