Tool Selection for Kindergarten by H. French

Reflection One

The classroom environment is very important.  Our instructor (with his fondness for Reggio Approach) and Dan Meyer (with his emphasis on perplexity) share that belief.  As a kindergarten teacher, I spend a lot of time of developing the classroom environment.   Our classrooms need children to want to learn and who feel that they can accomplish their goals.  I feel that kindergarten teachers do strive for the positives mentioned in the “100 Voices of Children.”  Therefore, we ask ourselves what do we wish to accomplish and what tools do we need to accomplish them.  Technology is tool.  But, what about tool selection?  I heard Mr. Meyer mention sharing his lessons by blogging and getting some great feedback from experienced teachers as well as the toy company.  I am not sure of the elementary community’s stance since so many use www.TeachersPayTeachers.com for each other’s intellectual property and time spent on it.

Here is tidbit from their website.  How many teachers use TpT?  We have over 1,600,000 registered teacher users and 90,000,000+ page views per month.

I have to ask myself about tool selection constantly.  For today’s class, I wanted to find the tools to address the Next Generation Science Standards’s Engineering Design for my classroom.  As I shared earlier via Google Docs, it isn’t easy to find the tools you need.  But, I think I have a perplexing problem to solve.
