Reflection of Dan Meyer and first day

After meeting today and discussing the 100 voices of children and exploring Twitter I realized that I am not that far out of touch with technology.  Although I had never used Twitter it reminded me of using Facebook and Pinterest as a source of ideas and inspiration.  I think using Twitter as more of a professional development will be helpful when following educational conversations.  I felt relieved by the 100 voices of Children because as I stated earlier it is refreshing to hear that play and imagination and self-directed learning is still acceptable to other educators in a day of standards and testing.  What resonated with me while watching Dan Meyer is that I am already using many of the tools he finds to be important.  I was pleasantly surprised that I have the main tools (smartboard, document camera, laptop, and audio) to use in my classroom.  I liked his use of Google docs to keep record of his brainstorming and thoughts.  I currently cut and paste many ideas and links from the internet and send them to my school email account but haven’t mastered a way to organize them for easy retrieval.  I am interested in the way he did his bookmarking to organize his “treasured finds”.  I also liked the way he shared the idea of saving a video off the internet so that you don’t have to worry about it crashing and not having access when basing your lessons around one.   I loved his questioning and his way of chasing perplexity in everyday experiences.  I personally don’t know how well I do this.  I would like to try to accomplish this in some way with Kindergarten.   -Aimee

  1. I agree that Pinterest and Facebook are on the list of useful technology tools for kindergarten teachers!

  2. I was also interested in the bookmarking....I think Pinterest might be one of the tools for this.
