Reflection, Day1

The first day was odd.  I left not knowing what I was going to get out of this, and worried that I would only learn about blogs.  After dinner with my husband, a glass of wine, and watching the Dan Meyer's video I am refreshed and have a determination to find ways to use technology in creative, engaging, and authentic ways in the classroom.   I know there is great potential in technology for students who struggle in traditional learning, who struggle to write or take a test.  I just don't quite know how to use the technology to unlock it yet!  I question how to manage time with these projects, and how to keep the students productive.  Also how do we assess these projects?
I really enjoyed Dan Meyer's video!  It could be Ed Tech for Dummies- it gave the basic tools you need and why.  I had to look up what an rss reader was.  His thoughts on perplexity I believe are translatable to creativity.  You have to keep encouraging it to flow through your mind.  I think keeping curiosity alive and active is what helps you connect to students.  Reminding us teachers that students are questioning and wondering about all different things.  We as adults get tunnel vision and don't see all the wonder that surrounds us on a daily basis.
I also took away some really good ideas from the video and his web site.  Interesting ways to engage students in grammar, yes!  -Arline

  1. I am interested in planning a great lesson. Madeline Hunter's lesson plan design has the "anticipatory set" as a starting point. Good teaching is still good teaching. Students must be interested and motivated to solve perplexing questions!
